New Web Resource Helps with Better Mass Preparation

Do you ever feel that you don’t get very much out of the Sunday Mass readings? Would you like to be better prepared for the upcoming weekend’s Gospel? Now there is a FREE and simple, online tool that is hot off the press this month that can help you and I prepare better to get more out of the Mass readings, especially the Gospel, each weekend. Of course, what you put into it is what you will get out of it.

Besides the importance of bringing an open and prayerful heart as we enter into church for the weekend Mass, there are some great preparatory tools available for us to use. One way to prepare for the upcoming weekend Mass readings is to read them once or multiple times in advance sometime during the week. You may even want to set aside a day or time during the week to do that in the convenience of your own home. You could even come to church early on Saturday or Sunday before Mass and prayerfully read through the readings before the liturgy begins. But I would like to share with you a new digital way to prepare for the Mass readings.

Brandon Vogt, one of the young, premier, Catholic evangelizers, who is known for being the Content Director for Bishop Robert Barron’s Word on Fire Catholic Ministries (www.wordonfire.org) as well as the recent author of the book, Return: How to Draw Your Child Back to The Church, is making great use of the new media and technology to share the Good News of Jesus Christ through a new Catholic Mass tool he has pioneered called “Deeper Gospel.” What is it? It’s a very simple but effective web tool that helps you in advance to prepare for the Sunday Gospel. The website is http://deepergospel.com. If you go to it, all you need to do is type your name, e-mail address, and hit “subscribe.” Then each Thursday morning before the Sunday (or Saturday Vigil) Gospel reading, you will be e-mailed the Sunday Gospel reading and three brief quotes from saints, popes, or Church Fathers. Prayerfully read them! Plus there is a bonus-free resource from Brandon at the bottom of the e-mail you can receive too. Also at the bottom, there is a link to listen to the Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles, Bishop Robert Barron’s podcast, which is an audio version that you can listen to on the upcoming weekend’s readings. In addition, there is a link to Dr. Scott Hahn’s three-minute, Sunday reflection both in a text format as well as an audio version. While the use of all of these resources are FREE, one way to prepare better and go deeper into the Mass is to begin by subscribing to Brandon Vogt’s “Deeper Gospel” today at http://deepergospel.com. God bless you, and enjoy!

  1. Thank you Fr. Jeff. I have been receiving Dr. Hahn’s Bible reflections weekly but I am adding this one also. I think it is important to get multiple perspectives on the readings coming up.
